1949 The Year They Began Fighting Tooth Decay

1949 The Year They Began Fighting Tooth DecayIn the year 1949, we were just coming out of the era of the horse and buggy but proper dental care wasn’t the biggest concern yet for most people – that is until Colgate put together a study into the effects of more frequent brushing, especially with their new Colgate Dental Cream.

That year The Milwaukee Sentinel published the findings of a study that was conducted by Colgate in which college students were separate into two groups. One group was to continue their regular oral behaviour whilst the second group was instructed to brush their teeth – not once a day – but after every mean with Colgate’s patented dental cream (toothpaste).

The results? After the year was over, the researchers found that those who brushed after each meal had significantly lower rates of teeth decay and tooth loss.

And therein we have the beginning of an era of proper and responsible dental care. You can actually read the entire printed article here for your perusal.
